Weight gainers generally consist of very cheap, low quality whey protein concentrate and high glycemic carbohydrates such as dextrose and maltodextrin in an attempt to add calories.
These products are not recommended, as it is not a good idea to have blood sugar elevated all the time from consuming simple sugars. It would be much better to make your own weight gainer out of a simple protein powder, blended with various fruits, essential fatty acid oils (such as olive or flax) and some ground oats. These will add good, healthy calories without a compromising high insulin spike.
